Rothwell Music Festival 2017 – a festival as bold as brass attracted bands from all over the area last Friday evening.

The festival proved to be an outstanding event foir the newly formed Lofthouse Brass Roots Band.

Lofthouse Brass Roots Band, conducted by Andrew Whitaker, produced a fine performance of classical music by Beethoven, Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Verdi and Elgar to win first place in the open section and win the Joseph Priestley cup.

This was the first performance by the newly formed band and so were over the moon with the result at their first attempt.

Adjudicator Alan Fernie, who had come down from Scotland, praised the work of all the contenders, conductors and tutors.

“I would like to thank those who support this event, it should really be on Saturday night TV!” said Alan Fernie

“A big thanks to those bands who travelled to the music festival. Let’s hope that all the young people continue to play and enjoy music!”
