Davina is from Huddersfield and began learning the cornet at the age of 10 before moving to baritone while playing for Scapegoat Hill Band. She later played in a number of other local bands on both euphonium and baritone, namely Golcar Band and Linthwaite Junior and Senior Bands on euphonium, before playing for Lindley Band on baritone by the age of 15. Davina took a break from playing due to work and family commitments, but restarted playing again in later life inspired mainly by the success of her son James who became a gifted player on the euphonium.
Davina went on to play with bands including Honley Band, Meltham & Meltham Mills Band, and more recently Uppermill Band, where she became Solo Euphonium and won the accolades of ‘Player of the Year’ and ‘Most Improved Player’.
Davina is also Solo Euphonium with Vintage Brass, and also enjoys taking part in local solo competitions. Recent successes have included winning ‘Best Euphonium’ prize at Elland, and ‘Best Euphonium’ & ‘Overall Player of the Day’ prize at Holme Valley, and for this was awarded the Black Dyke Trophy.
