Kathryn Firth
Solo Horn
Kathryn comes from a family of bandsmen; she was taught to play by her father and grew up in the Midlands, predominantly playing for Stamford Brass until the age of 16 when she took the Solo Horn seat at Leicester based Ancient Order of Foresters. She is a proud alumna of NYBBGB and attributes her time in the band for establishing her best and lifelong friendships.
Kathryn moved to Manchester to read Business Studies in 1996 and soon after joined the Point of Ayr Brass Band on Solo Horn where she enjoyed some of the band’s key successes – twice winning the Welsh regional championships and in 1997 being placed 3rd in the European Brass Band Championships in Kerkrade. Career choices led to a move to Telford, Shropshire in 2001 when she enjoyed playing for Jackfield (Elcock Reisen) again on Solo Horn before making the move to Yorkshire in 2004.
Kathryn now has a young daughter, Olivia, and although banding has taken a back seat she has now started to teach Olivia!
